How do I recover an itunes backup via Windows 8???

Hi all,

I have an itunes encrypted backup that I'm unable to restore to my apple device as its corrupt. However, after a quick google search I came across several dodgy software applications that recover backup data. I gave one a try and I was able to view the photos, notes, etc on this same backup but there were costs related to get the full functionality of the program.

Any suggestions on free applications that can recover data?
