Maybe I just got lucky. If you go over to the Logitech User Forums, people report all kinds of problems installing Setpoint:

Okay. I tried to "unblock" it as you recommended, then reinstalled. No difference; again the four command windows and no installation.

The installation file, SetPoint6.65.62_64.exe, was downloaded tonight from Logitech. Why would it be blocked?

    It's a Windows security thing.

I'll try to install it now.
Will make a Macrium image first in case I screw up something.
    Back in about 2-3 hours...

    It installed.
I had no use for it & used my macrium image to restore to previous state.

Okay, thanks for the info. As reported last night, I already tried unblocking it, using your method, with no improvement.

The truly peculiar aspect of this problem is not the command-line windows, it's their report: "Successfully processed 1 files; Failed processing 0 files," which may be true in some internal sense (certainly in the sense of lazy programmers too impatient to add the few lines of code needed for correct grammatical number) but did not result, despite a final success report via GUI, in installing the application. I have seen this result with other installations, unrelated to Logitech and Setpoint, which I overcame by running the install task with "administrative privileges." This no longer works. Have I reached the point of needing to format the hard drive and install a fresh Windows 8.1, not the one that HP shipped?

Have you tried running the sfc & dism commands ?

Here they are in a batch file.
Download it & right click it & choose Properties & Unblock it & right click it & choose Run as administrator--

    dism.bat

    Maybe 2 hours to run.

    David Bailey:

Downloaded dism.bat and executed it as administrator. On the first SFC pass it found corrupted files but not on the second.

Restarted the machine, then reinvoked the app installer with "administrative privileges." Obtained results identical with previous runs. The final GUI from the installation included the following:

    "Installation is complete.
"To change the settings of your device, click
"Finish, then open SetPoint by clicking on the
"SetPoint tile in the Windows Start Screen."

Of course no "SetPoint tile" appears in the Windows Start Screen. I presume this direction is meant for Vista or Windows-7. As a matter of curiosity, where in the Windows-8 desktop array do you find a list of all the programs that can be invoked?

"Classic Shell," indeed! How in the world does one obtain the classic shell?

Obviously Windows 8.1 contains a plethora of desirable options unknown to me. Can you recommend documentation?
