Solved Help with PSP 7

I know there are newer paint programs, I even own a few but I'm so used to PSP 7 I can do things quickly.

Here is the deal. I photograph tombstones to upload to FIND A GRAVE and after I upload my camera to a file I view it in my PSP 7 and trim it so only the tombstone shows. My problem is, that the pictures open up over 2700 pixels. When I trim it, it takes more time than it should and it take longer to upload to FAG.... so how can I make the picture from my picture file open into PSP 7 with less pixels so it doesn't take so long to trim it and upload it?

I think the problem is not with PSP7 but with my camera. It is uploading my pictures to a folder and they are coming out of the camera 2700 pixels. It's a Canon. I think I need to call them and see if these pics can be made smaller.

I use cannon cameras, I think you just need to set your resolution to a lower setting to get smaller pic's. I use Photoshop to size and trim them so I can't really help with PSP7

On my Elph 110HS you can roughly set the size with just the Func Set, check out your manual or scroll through the Menu,

Maybe a less complicated photo editor would leave more resources for the photos. I have used PSP 7 before, but I now use Paint.net, a free photo editor. Give it a try, you might like it. Paint.net is taylored after Windows Paint, but adds more features.

It does not matter the number of pixels the image is. What matters is the disk size of the image. If you have an image with a size of 2~4MB in size then depending on how fast your PC is, it will take time to load.

So what you really need is some software that can compress the image to a smaller size without losing much of the details.

I use WinSoftMagic, Inc. - Advanced JPEG Compressor - jpeg image compressor, optimizer, converter to compress the image into a much smaller size then it will be faster to load.

Here's an example: The image on the left has a size of 586.7K in size and after the compression, the dimension of the images are the same but it reduces to 136.4 K (77% smaller than the original) yet the details are still there. In some cases, the program can compress up to 90% of the original.



Here's another example: the original is over 2MB in size and reduces to 84.4KB. ie a 96% compressed.

I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks. I really like PSP7 because I know it backward and forwards. If I switch to a new program I have to learn it all over. I have Paint and I don't care for it. OK this is a pay program... I am doing this grave photoing for free so I can't afford to sink in money.

If I change the size of the picture to say 600x 306 will that help? I hate to hear my computer rumbling when I'm doing these pictures.

To anyone else with this problem I solved it somewhat by, bringing up the photo to PSP7, clicking resize and putting 600 x maintain aspect ratio. (345). Then I save it. No more groaning from my hard drive. I realize that you can adjust the camera... but this was easier.

If you really want to resize the image(s). This little program will do just that in bulk with a right click on image/folder

Does this resizing affect the quality of the photo?

Thanks. This was included in the download. I'm uninstalling immediately. This is why I HATE downloading from the Internet. A file was immediately quarantined.

You can set the percentage of output quality to 100 %. You can download and try it, just set the output to a different folder so the original will be untouched then compare.

I unchecked all the AVG crap and still got an infected file. No thanks.
