Certain Programs Won't Start Up With The Computer

So I have Peerblock to start up with the computer (it has an icon set inside the Startup folder by me), yet that program never runs; I have to click that listing inside the Startup folder manually for it to start. I have two other programs in there to start with the computer, and the both run the way they're supposed to. Why is this program procrastinating to start up with the computer?

It is an issue with 8. There are some programs that simply won't load on startup even if UAC is disabled. Wish I had a fix for you. I have a couple myself that act the same.

Hi pop eye, thanks for the reply. I guess that just kinda sucks why that happens? I'll see if I can figure some other way for it to start up automatically...

    Hello Pepanee,

If this program runs elevated (run as administrator), then that would be the issue. Windows will not let elevated programs run at startup by default for security reasons.

If this is the case, then you could create an elevated shortcut using the tutorial below to run the program elevated without getting a UAC prompt. Afterwards, place the elevated shortcut in your Startup folder to have it run at startup.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply alien Brink. That's a really great tutorial that you have written and it's much appreciated. I haven't tried it yet, but of course that should fix the issue. I'll eventually do that, yet I'm not sure if you would know or whatnot, but why has Microsoft made certain simple things (like this, for example) so difficult? I'm just curious to why they changed this certain feature.

    You're most welcome.

It was an effort to make Windows more secure by not allowing applications to run elevated at startup since elevated programs would have full access to all of the computer. This way a virus or malware couldn't simply just run elevated at startup, and do serious damage.

Oh I see. I was assuming that Microsoft had really advanced technology in Windows 8.1 which doesn't allow any start up item to ever change essential computer files or something, but I guess that there will always be some hack work-around to do things like that. Why do hackers even exist?

Anyways, thanks for the reply Shawn and the guaranteed solution that you posted above. Have a great day sir

Because sadly, there are bad people in the world. You seem like an innocent soul. It is refreshing.
