Solved Programs appearing twice in taskbar

I'm hoping there's a fix for this since I find it extremely annoying :)

As you can see in the picture when I open a pinned program it doesn't extend the icon but creates a new icon in the taskbar.
This is not happening with all programs like Opera, but iTunes and Skype are both prone to this problem.

Is there a fix for this... or is this because of the programs themselves?

hmm why would I need that? I installed Windows yesterday... but I'll try it anyway.
Some of the icons in the screenshot seem low res because my monitor is 4k.

edit: tried... no dice

Hi hahallur, welcome to Windows EightForums! :)

Try unpinning them from the taskbar and re-pinning them from the application .exe files.

I had the same problem but I cannot remember how I fixed it. It definitely was kinda annoying to me too. It was something about making the shortcut from the actual exe and pinning that, rather than pinning a shortcut from the desktop.

Ok, so far I've tried pinning/unpinning... pinning shortcuts/applications... also repairing/uninstalling/installing...

One thing I also did was to delete shortcuts from windows >> start menu >> program
That made all the programs behave wrong in the task bar, so I had to restore the shortcuts to that place.
So far Opera and steam are behaving accordingly but iTunes and Skype are still wrong.

This is annoying as hell >D

Ok, I've figured it out.

You have to open the program up, right click on the new instance that opened in the taskbar and pin it to the taskbar.

Apparently right clicking shortcuts and applications doesn't work for programs like Skype and iTunes!
