App screen not listing all apps by name

Hi, this is my first Windows 8 experience and I am curious as to why the Apps screen, when sorted by name, does not list all software. I have installed Mozilla and Open Office, and Mozilla is listed under "M" but Open Office is listed to the right of the alphabetical section, not under O. Also there are other apps that are not listed under the alphabet that are categorized to the right of the name section.

Is there a way to get everything sorted by name? It sure would seem much more organized.
    Thanks,
    JW

All APPs are alphabetically sorted by columns not by rows, I would like them horizontally too but didn't find a way to do it.

So why would Mozilla Firefox be listed under M and Open Office not listed anywhere in the alphabet?

Hello JW, and welcome to Eight Forums.

As Mike posted above, only modern apps will be listed under the letters, while desktop apps will be listed to right by name.

Mozilla Firefox may be listed under M with the modern apps since it did used to have a modern UI mode that would make Firefox feel like a modern app. The modern UI mode was pulled from Firefox though, but it appears that Mozilla hasn't updated Firefox to not place the shortcut with modern apps, but with desktop apps instead.

Is it listed in the far right anywhere? Admin tools, Office, etc.

It does the same for me without it being listed on the right side of the letters.

    Thank you very much.
I had a feeling that it was only the modern apps that had the modern UI, but for organizational purposes I wish that wasn't the case. Sure would be nice to have all listed in one place.

If the installer creates a folder it will be listed to the right, if not, the app will be listed under the letters to the left.

You could also create custom folders to 'cleanup' the Apps screen.
(There is a 'careful' way to accomplish this without breaking stuff, I'll provide a link when I find it)
