 In Default Programs>Set your default programs, the only program associated with Microsoft Word is something called Word (desktop), and the icon is a Word 2010 icon.

I searched online for help and have tried everything I found, including the registry change, but when I tried to name the new key it said it already existed. This is the link to that advice: How to make Microsoft Word 2013 the default program even if Microsoft Word 2010 is also installed | Fury Computing

I would like to keep both programs available, but I want Word 2013 as default for opening all Word documents.
I am using an HP Pavilion win 8.1 desktop computer, which I purchased with win 8 pre-installed.

Go to iconarchive search for your office (Exp" Office 2003) and download it. Right click on icon, change icon, locate your icon, and apply :)

 OK, this is really bad advice. If there is a way to change the icon without using the registry, I don't think this is it. I am attaching a couple of images to show that the Word 2010 icon is listed in Control Panel>Default Programs>Set your default programs>Word (desktop), and also an image showing both the Word 2010 and the Word 2013 icons. Clearly, the Word 2010 icon is what shows as the Word (desktop) icon in "Set your default programs" and not the Word 2013 icon.

I did a computer search for "Word (desktop), and nothing was found. There is no access to this icon through file explorer.

The problem started after I did a factory restore about 10 days ago.
