FREE Kingsoft OFFICE pretty good better than LIBREOFFICE

    Hi there
If you are looking for a good alternative to MS office I suggest you try KINGSOFT (or WPS now) Office -- even the EXCEL seems to be reasonably compatible with Ms OFFICE. I haven't tried comparison with EXCEL 2013 but it doesn't have problems with some of my quite complex OFFICE 2007 spreadsheets and the OFFICE 2010 stuff I've tested works fine too.

There's even Linux versions (.deb, .rpm, .tgz) so you can install using the package manager of your choice. It's in ALPHA on Linux but for ALPHA software it seems pretty good.

Screenshot of a complex spreadsheet created with EXCEL but running in WPS office on an OPENSUSE 13.1 Linux system.

NOTE : The Linux version(yet) doesn't support VBS but the Windows one seems to run VB macros (or at least some simple ones - haven't tested it exhaustively though).

    Cheers

99% of my use of MS Office is Publisher, love that program, been using it since version 1. In the beginning they sold it separately, still can't find better suited program for DTP. Printed whole bunch of stuff with it, brochures, catalogs, price sheets even few books. Had full Office 2013 bought and pushed on me by a customer I was doing some work for but now without that I'm keeping this one as long as possible just because it's there and Publisher of course.
    Edit.
Just downloaded for windows, how do I go about installing from newest Mint ? It's in Windows VM.

    Hi there

Choose Linux version - download -- you'll probably need the .deb file for Linux Mint -- double click and it should ask you to open with ==> choose your package manager.

With the "great" ribbon menu. I just love, when I have to use portable LibreOffice at work do something in Office, if I do not want to spend like 30 min searching for a function, that takes 1 second to perform. Anyway, I tried WPS and it had problem opening xlsx documents, they looked just horrible, not that LO is much better.

Their new webpage is actually nicer: WPS Office for Windows not that it makes it any better.

@CM - If you have already downloaded the .deb package, Synaptics should automaticaly associate the package for installation... else search Software Centre - and install from there...(my preferred method.)

Help, please! I can't afford a virus program and I badly need a recommendation for a FREE program that will do the job, (without all the bells and whistles). I tried AVG and it was one of those "free for 30 days' nightmares with many add ons and problems. Help appreciated. Using Win 8.1.
Hi there For people looking for a decent alternative to Ms Office - try KINGSOFT OFFICE (also called WPS Office) . Versions for Windows, Android (works brilliantly on Mobile phone / tablet) and now released for Linux too. IMO this is more compatible than Libre Office and good alternative...
