    I just ran one yesterday.
It never hurts to run one every day.

Seems that many times, when I start Macrium there will be an update. But, I appreciate all the fixes and enhancements.

I have to back off of my statement. I installed the 5.3.7086 update on both Win 7 64 bit and Win 8.1.1. 64 bit (dual boot system). I'm getting the exact same errors on both systems when I try to create a Win PE rescue media (Disc). The CD/DVD burner I'm using is not the issue as it burns OK with Nero and I didn't have any problems creating the Win PE rescue media until this last update version.

When I first start the procedure to create the rescue media I get an I/O error:

I then continue on and get another error about the WIN PE needing update and do that (I think).

I then do the CD burn but get another I/O error.

I've posted the problem on the Macrium Forum.

2nd edit: Things have went to H..l. The response I got from Macrium was a typical tech support "consumer" response. "Try a different CD". The first error is coming up before the program even knows what media I'm going to use. And as I posted on their forum this problem only surfaced with the last update.

Update on my Macrium 5.3.7086 problem. I have opened a ticket with Macrium support.

However, I uninstalled Macrium including logs, etc (see screenshot), rebooted the PC and then did a new install. I was able to create the WinPE5.0 disc but I still got the I/O error after it mounted the WinPE. This was on both Win 7 64bit and Win 8.1.1. 64 bit.

I haven't tried a drive backup or restore, yet.

I got the discs made, just a problem with the new version of Macrium.

My backup system, which also has Win 8.1.1 64 bit, but different hardware, did the exact same thing. Uninstall/Reinstall "fixed" it and I was able to create the WinPE5.0 disc. Before I updated the other system, I tried it with the existing version, 5.2.6526 and there were no problems creating a WinPE 5.0 rescue media. After upgrading it had the exact same problem as my main system.

I'm working with Macrium tech support on the problem.

Why didn't you use usb ?
I can backup my computer with a 32 GB usb.
The image for all my local drives is only 21 GBs.

Disc Backup wasn't (isn't) an issue.

The issue was creating the rescue media, but writing to the rescue media was not the issue. The errors occurred before it wrote to media. I tried a USB flash drive to see and got the same errors before it got to the point of creating the rescue media.

Since it does not happen to any body including myself and I would not think that they put out something broken. So your problem is one isolated case.
You've tried with both CD and USB then that rules out the hardware problem.

I suggest that you re-download both Macrium and WAIK package to the desktop. Uninstall completely and also delete the folders:
    C:\Programs Files\Macrium
    C:\ProgramData\Macrium
Then run CCleaner. Next, reinstall Macrium and try to create the rescue disk, at one point Macrium will ask about the WAIK not installed in your PC then point it to the zip file downloaded so Macrium will use it to update the WAIK package.

The screen shot of the Macrium Download Agent is shown below:
