Solved Microsoft Upload Center crashing

Hello,

Since yesterday I've been getting a "The Microsoft Document Cache encountered a problem" error notification. whenever I restart my PC. The weird thing is its happening on both my desktop and laptop.

Anyway when I click on it I get this box...



Clicking the repair button gives me this dialogue box...



and tells me the action can't be completed because another application is using the document and to close all office documents which... 1) - there are no shared or in use items, 2) - all office documents are already closed, and 3) - Restarting the computer and doing this again results in the same error and issue.

If you click cancel, you get this box...


and Upload Center basically crashes

Anyway anyone else seeing this? Thoughts/Suggestions?

I have the same issue, since this morning.

Closing all even remotely Office related programs and tasks I get repair to work, then a few minutes later the same error appears again.

Although ATM just you and me but I think it's too big a coincidence. Mine occurred after I finally rebooted after this weeks updates, did yours occur also after an update?

I had the issue earlier this week on the laptop then it went away. However, doing updates on both desktop and PC brought it back for the laptop, and now desktop.

Anyway your reply confirms my suspicion that its on Microsoft's end. Can't see where 2, now 3 PCs (including yours), would have the same issue at the same time if it wasn't a server problem

Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

I've been a bit sick, mostly in bed using just one laptop. I fired up two other 8.1 machines now, updated and rebooted, one of them have the same issue.

Can't see any differences in installed updates, though. I mean the desktop without this error has made the same updates than the desktop with the error.

Anyway it definitely seems like it’s something either with the server or in the updates we did. I'll do some digging around the net later to see what I can come up with.

I'm leaning towards an Windows update issue; both those desktops I tested now last had no issues when booted up first time in days. I updated, rebooted and then the other got this same error.

Well FYI, I just tried to save a word document to SkyDrive and got basically the same upload center error. Basically you can't upload any office documents. Even an cut & paste to SkyDrive results in an upload error when you open the document and it won't be sync'd

However, you can load other items to SkyDrive and they sync just fine. I just copied one of my images to SkyDrive and can access it and download it to my laptop so the issue just seems to affect Office products.

Man I'm hoping it wasn't one of these updates that hosed office. BTW did you notice Office had a 100+meg update?

Yeah, I noticed. And individual updates to all Office apps:
Incredible, booted one more Windows 8.1 Update 1 laptop just now, over 540 MB of important updates downloading now (the laptop has been off about three weeks).

I update so frequently I barely see 300mb unless a service pack or major update. Anyway I looked around the net but thus far I've not seen anyone else report what we're seeing yet.

We'll see what happens.

Fixed!!!

Not sure if this was coincidence but I just did an update of my office 365 through the program itself....



and after the update, all is back to normal now. Restarting no longer gives the error. Tried a couple of times on both PC's and all is good. Even uploaded an office file with no issues. See if this works for you.


Oh, yeah... thanks for clarifying that 540 gig. That would have been a lot to download

I have powered off all other machines except this laptop, I will test that tomorrow. BTW, interesting detail: seeing your screenshot, that you have Office 365 subscription, I noticed that that one desktop that did not get this error is the one with normal Office 2013 installed. The others with error have Office 2013 installed with Click To Run installer from my Office 365 for Business subscription.

Based on just your and my experience, the error seems to related to Office 365 more than Office 2013 itself?

Probably, but who knows. I'm just happy its fixed now.

I had this problem, with same error messages as described in this thread, following using Word 10th July 2014; tried all the recommended means for dealing with the Microsoft Office Document cache, including turning off MSOSYNC.EXE and deleting or renaming cache. Every time the issue returned on rebooting, with same messages, if followed leading to creating a new cache every time. As it wasn't a problem before, tried a restoration of an earlier image before 7th July and the problem went, however it appeared again as soon as I installed the latest Microsoft updates. I use Office 365 and tried the above, without reinstalling a previous image again, but did turn off MSOSYNC.EXE first and renamed the faulty cache. I then started Word and went to options and selected as the above screen shot and instructions by sygnus21 "Fixed" above.

I had Windows explorer open for the folder for Office 15 where the Office cache is located, after pressing Office updates as explained above, update from the program, it updated Office and a new office cache appeared. As I had renamed the one that was faulty, it appeared as "OfficeFilecache" I tested shutting down my computer and restarting and it now works fine again.

So to confirm it is fixed, just by following the solution above.

Thanks I'm glad it worked for you. I'm sure it was just a case of updating office. Why it didn't work through Windows Update considering there were office updates there is a mystery.
