Is there an App worth running on my 24" monitor?

Is there an App worth running on my 24" monitor?

I haven't found an App that seems useful on my 24" monitor. As an example consider Kindle. Imagine reading sentences that are 15 inches long. No thank you. Of course the reader has the same problem. Finance might be okay but they only provide the amount of information that would be appropriate for a 10 inch screen. MSNBC.com might be useful except it isn't working at the moment.

So my Start screen has tiles (I guess you could call them large icons) for all the programs I use in the desktop mode, Word, Firefox, xplorer2, Adobe Reader and others yet to install. That makes it a colorful and very large Start Menu.

What apps would you run on a 24 inch monitor?

Have you tried some of the other news apps, it really depends on what you're interested in. Photography, music, video, games, world events.
I run Windows 8 on a 42" TV and I run Media Centre, XBMC, Picasa, Flixter and things like that, for me its a great entertainment GUI.
Then again I also run it on a Netbook so I run different apps on that.

Good point. However, I look at TV programs on the TV. On the computer I work on websites, finances, email, tutorials and the like. Generally with several windows open, not convenient for metro programs.

If you like geography, maps would be great on a 24"

I have a 24" Samsung but not enough desktop space to use it. I'm on one of my 22" monitors until I get a larger desk (depth-wise).

I don't see your point, I purchase all my new tech books on Kindle if I can, because I like to bring them with me on service call, and I prefer read it on my 2560 x 1600 30" Dell monitor as I can see more stuff than my 1920 x 1200 monitors, so I need to scroll less.

Well, then you've got the option to go the desktop.

So on your 30" monitor you use the whole window to read the width of one page of a "tech book". I don't think so... But it appears that is what you are stuck with in a metro app. I read technical files, pages what ever on my 24" monitor as well, in a window that makes the reading easy and where I can put a related window near by for some sort of action. I don't think that works with a metro app. Of course Microsoft may change that in the final version. Then it would be useful.

That's right! The desktop is for work. Metro apps as presently configured don't seem useful for doing that type of activity. I don't have anything against Windows 8 as such. I would be happy to use a new computer next year with Windows 8 installed. It can be easily configured to do what I need to do and the metro screen can simply be a large list of programs a la the original start button. I was just wondering if there are any work related useful apps in the metro format. So far none seem to fit the bill.
