Hi there

I've seen particularly for users of Office 2010 a FEE being charged for Language packs -- YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS -- the free download links are still available -- SAVE YOUR MONEY.

I just hope that this isn't going to be the way forward now that one is going to have to pay for every tiny thing that used to be free.

Cheers

[del]I just want to confirm this. Office 2010 users can get the language packs in any supported language free from Digital River, the official Microsoft Digital Delivery Partner. See this article for more information: Office 2010 Language Packs Free Official Direct Download Links « My Digital Life[/del] EDIT: See this post for more information.

Office 2013 users must pay for language packs but the prices are IMO not too high, in Euro region €19.99. Proofing and spell checking tools in another language are free. More: Microsoft Office language options ? multilingual support

Hi there

You can still load Office 2007/2010 and 2013 LIP (Language Interface packs) FOR FREE here

Office Language Interface Pack (LIP) downloads - Downloads

These are perfectly good enough for anybody wanting Office in alternate languages.

This download includes Office 2007, 2010 and 2013.

Note that if you want FULL language packs then it's a chargeable feature although the LIP should do for most purposes.

extract from the site .......If a language is available in a language pack or as a fully localized version, it isn’t available as a LIP. If the language you want isn’t listed here, please go to Buy Office 2010 language packs or Buy Office 2013 Language Packs. Or wait for a while as the Office 2013 LIPs become available

I'm using Icelandic which fortunately is available asa LIP and hence free.

Sorry if I'm not understanding you here guys, I have Office 2010 installed in English but my wife wants it in French. By "wants it in French" I mean the ribbon and buttons and what not - not the spell check.

I have changed the display language to French but while help tips etc (and windows explorer every other application like live mail etc) turns to French, MS Office still refuses to.

Is this what I need? This is my current set-up BTW.

EDIT: No French language on these links. Oh well. I suppose I have to reinstall it in French and then I will not know what the buttons are for instead of her (unless there is another alternative).

@Jimbo: The LIPs are only available for some minority languages (Catalan, Icelandic, Khmer and so on) but not for major languages (French, English, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish and so on). It is important to notice the difference:

A LIP, as told above only available in some minor languages, is not a complete language pack. It does not change the language completely but instead changes the most common interface menus and such in selected language.

A language pack on the other hand changes the program completely to selected language. A Language Interface Pack (LIP) in minor languages should not be mixed with full Language Packs.

If you want Office menus in Georgian or KiSwahili or Luxembourgish, you can get a LIP for free. For Office 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013, see the official LIP download site: Office Language Interface Pack (LIP) downloads - Downloads

However, if your Office is in any of the official 36 languages like English, German, Russian or Spanish, and you want to completely change it to another major language, you need a Language Pack, which in case of Office 2013 costs you a little (in Euro region €19.99). For Office 2010 these language packs are free.

Sorry if I'm not understanding you here guys, I have Office 2010 installed in English but my wife wants it in French. By "wants it in French" I mean the ribbon and buttons and what not - not the spell check.

You need to download the French Microsoft Office Language Pack for Office 2010 from here: Office 2010 Language Packs Free Official Direct Download Links « My Digital Life

Kari
I'm afraid these links from this page don't work for me. They say "The resource you are looking for has been removed....." when I select the language pack to download.

You are right. I use Office 2013 and have not had any need for these 2010 language packs in such a long time, I was not aware of this. The links are no longer working as you said, I checked now and all links take you to a Microsoft's own 404 page ("Page not found").

Got interested and started Googling. The most official looking page I can find, titled in Google search as "Office Language Pack 2010 – Buy and download from Microsoft" at http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/Office-2010-Language-Pack/productID.254514800 takes you to the Microsoft Store where it is impossible to find anything Office 2010 related.

Found a website where a poster has gotten these download links I gave in my post in March 26th this year (see replies ¤4 and #5 here) so it seems the links becoming dead has happened sometime during the last two and a half months.

I will edit my previous posts and remove the links. At this point I am very sorry but I simply cannot find any valid information about Office 2010 language pack downloads.

Strange they removed it. Thanks for trying though...

Hi there
For the LIPS the link is still valid.

Actually the LIP pretty well does all the stuff you need in another language so IF a lip is available there isn't really any need to go for the full language pack.

I'm sure though the Full language packs USED to be downloadable FREE. Something has definitely changed here it seems.

Cheers

Jan, if MS were giving their software away for free don't you think they would use their own site?

Rather than yours for example.
