I just got an iBUYPOWER Desktop with Windows 8.1, complete with a blu ray player, but no software. Nowadays, an app is required, however they are pricey and sadly a free one didn't work. I need someone's help in finding a free/affordable blu-ray software for the computer. Please

I don't think the codec for Blu Ray is available on any free software.

I use Nero for a variety of functions, including playing Blu Rays.

One other possible issue... Even with software, Blu Ray will only work on certain monitor interfaces... it must support HDCP. On my system, I can play Blu Ray with my monitor connected via HDMI, but not through the VGA cable. I think I tried some software which will play it in a non-HDCP system, but only in degraded mode (i.e., not full screen). but, I forget what software that was.

I use HDMI for the monitor, so that's not an issue. WMP doesn't support blu rays, and sadly that's a norm now because they didn't want to pay. VLC has been said to play them, but I've never gotten that to work after following the instructions repeatedly.

You said you use Nero; which Nero do you use and how good is it?

P.S. I have heard the best is USUsoft, but how do I pay for that safely?
