Disabling the ATKOSD2 start-up entry.

    Disabling the ATKOSD2 start-up entry.

I've noticed for a'while that the ATKOSD2 service would always start-up, even though the ATKOSDmgr option box is unchecked. I'm wondering if this command line would disable that particular service for good.

    echo Start
    echo #
    echo ######################## Default dirctory for x86 x64 ########################
    echo #
echo this command is default system32 directory for x86 OS or x64 OS
    cd %windir% & cd system32
    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "ATKOSD2" /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "ATKOSD2" /f
    echo #
echo ######################## Change the dirctory for x64 ########################
    echo #
echo this command is x86 application's registry for x64 OS
    cd %windir% & cd syswow64
    reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "ATKOSD2" /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" /v "ATKOSD2" /f
    echo End

Why do you want to disable this service? The ATK utility is required for full functionality of your laptop.

From what I can tell, ATKOSD2 is just for the display of '3d' icons to signify when certain Hot Keys are activated. I will never use these hot keys now, or in the later future. Further more, its installation is apparently considered 'optional' by the sources that I've perused.

Where I was able to disable the process in older Asus brand laptops, there does not seem to be an option for that now on this particular model.

I understand what it does, but I simply just do not consider it of any use or interest to me at the moment, which is why I want to to disable it.

Hope this clears up any confusion, and thank you for responding.

For my laptop its listed as a requirement for things like the Smart Gesture utility for my touchpad, which is something that I use. Can you uninstall the ATK utility? I'm on my desktop PC at the moment. I'll have a look latter on when I get my laptop out and see what I can sort out.

The "ATK Package" is listed in Programs and Features on my laptop so you can uninstall it, if you haven't already.

I made some backups, then proceeded to uninstall the .exe file, it seems doing that stopped the service altogether. Is there no way to stop the service without deleting either the ATKOSD2 package, or the .exe file? I don't wish to uninstall the atk package overall, just the offending service.

Please respond as soon as you can. Thank you in advance.

I don't know, I just leave mine as is and don't worry about it. I'm on my desktop PC now. I have a look see latter on in the day and see if I can turn that service off.

I can see the service listed, so have you tried stopping it and setting it to disabled?

It is listed in neither msconfig, or services.msc.
