They better work on making it "liter" and faster, even with an SSD it's miles behind Foxit and such.

Even foxit got too bloated for my tastes, I now use sumatraPDF and it works fine.

Interesting you say that - I dropped Foxit as it decided to install unwanted cloud programs with no way to opt out. I'm using Adobe again now. My problem is the PDF Filter (used by windows search) was much faster using the Foxit one. I search for text stings in PDF a lot and which filter is used on indexing options seems to make a big difference.

What do you have here on indexing options?

I too have up on Foxit. They snuck in stuff I had to later uninstall. I use Sumatra as well these days.

Haven't used Adobe in years.

Guess I'll try it then. My IPFilter comment was a bit off topic (sorry Edwin) but 10 years ago Foxit was 10x faster than Adobe for the search - I've not tested it since then. If I do I'll write it up here as it is interesting - at least for me :)

My filter looks like this, presumably from sumatra. I have not checked performance of pdf text searches.

Thanks for getting back Mike. I'll try it now. I don't like Adobe as it is slow searching within documents (as well as the windows search filter being slow).

Foxit say they are faster (well they would) but in my experience they are...

Fastest PDF Index PDF Search - Foxit PDF IFilter - Performance

I just don't like having crap installed when I didn't ask for it.

I have Foxit also. After reading this I was going to change to sumatraPDF. I went to their site to look. It says It does not work with Internet Explorer. So I guess I will stick with Foxit.

Hi there.

Foxit is so much better and it doesn't nag for updates every so often and require a re-boot.

I really don't like ANY software regularly "Phoning Home" without specific permission - the only one I let "auto update" is Windows (plus office).

Adobe is pretty bad at phoning home regularly -- I have photoshop and it seems to check pretty well every time I use it. !!

Cheers

One of the reasons I gave up on Adobe reader is that "phone home" attitude, don't need anybody to supervise my use of any program. I'm not sure but it certainly feels like it's spying on me and watching every move, same with Norton stuff. There are few "Adobe Reader accelerators" around but even with them it's noticeably slower than others.

I gave up on it because I could not get it to update.
& when I uninstalled it & tried to reinstall it, it would not re-install.

I use http://www.nitropdf.com/pdf-reader now.

Works good. :)

Mind you I gave up on Foxit as it installs things I didn't ask for. They are all as bad as each other really.
