Most programs vanished from programs and features in contr

Just noticed that most of the programs have vanished in programs and features (control panel). I have around 90 installed programs. The ones that have vanished still work from the quick launch bar but they have also disappeared from the start menu. Have tried a system restore to the only restore point that was available but it didn't change anything.
The programs that are there are in alphabetical order from Mi to Mo
I updated filezilla yesterday and that reappeared in the programs and features list.

Hi Trevor,

Recently I noticed the same problem on a Windows 8.1 Samsung laptop when I was trying to remove some junk programs that came from the Internet. The only programs listed in the laptop's Programs and Features menu have names that start with Mi or Mo. Plus, some programs are missing from the Start -> All Programs menu. Microsoft's System Restore didn't help me. Check if Administrative Tools is empty on your computer, too. It was empty on the laptop I am working on. I fixed that by opening a command prompt as Administrator and using the command SFC /SCANNOW. That didn't bring back the missing programs in Programs and Features but that fixed the missing shortcuts in Administrative Tools and may have fixed a couple other issues I didn't know about.

Hi thanks for the reply. Administrative tools looks OK. I had previously done a scannow and it came up with some message that something had been repaired, but still have the missing entries in programs and features.
