Apps keep open in the task manager after I close them

I normally only use 2 apps: the Mail and the Video, and even after I close these two apps, when I take a look at the Processes tab in the Task Manager, they are still there, there's no more CPU usage but they keep using Memory, which is usually a lot. So every time I want to actually close an app I have to open up the Task Manager, go to the Process tab and kill them off there, otherwise they'll keep using my memory.

Why is this? Is anyone having the same trouble?

    Thx in advance!

    Hello Rafael,

It sounds like may have only suspended the modern apps instead of completely closing them. Check to see if they no longer show up in Task Manager when closed using a method in the tutorial below.

Apps - Close in Windows 8

When apps are suspended in the background, they don't use any resources. They are just kept loaded in memory to make opening them faster next time. If the memory they use while suspended is needed by something else, then the app will be closed to free memory.

Ok, after a bit of googling, I've found a (different) way of closing the apps for good: You click and hold on to the top of them and then drag them to the bottom of the screen, then after a while the app will flip onto its Metro look then you can let go of it. That's it.
I just wish I could simply close them the traditional way which is a lot faster and easier.

Ok, the method I found the quickest and easiest was pressing alt+F4 to completely close the apps.

    Thank you!

Hello fellow users. I've been loving the new Task Manager, it's better in every aspect except the time it takes to use. 1 minute is not acceptable for anything that isn't Skyrim, it takes so long that at first I assumed I hadn't pressed the keys correctly. However it's much faster to open the...

After I launch IE11 and then close it(with all tabs), then I open the Task Manager on the Processes tab and there are 3 IE11 instances still open and no matter how many times I end these tasks, they'll immediately open again, consuming my ram AND CPU. CPU running at 100% and at high temps and when i open task manager it quickly drops. It goes up again as soon as i close it. This may be a driver issue or a virus. I have browsed through the igfxupdate.exe virus thread and i don't have any of those files in my sys32 folder and disabling search...
I updated to Windows 8.1 last month. It was quite smooth until some issues started 2-4 days ago. I don't remember if I have done something that may cause this, but I'm quite sure that I didn't make any change to the system. The problem is, even when I am not opening any applications, my fan...
