My OneDrive App does not work like SkyDrive.

When I click it, it takes me to the folder on C: drive.

If I click this link to OneDrive I found on Google, I get OneDrive online:

Is there a way to get the App to work right ?

Or is Microsoft going to sort it out later on ?

I think the app is working as designed. It takes you to the OneDrive folder on your local machine. Any changes you make to the local files will then be synced with the on-line OneDrive and subsequently to any other machines you have setup to be synced.

If you go on-line to OneDrive and make changes there, those changes will be synced with the OneDrive folder on your local machine.

what strollin said, makes sense really.....it's faster for you to change your local content on your local PC and then for it to automatically synch that with the cloud than you for you login to the cloud , upload to there then it downloading the content to your local PC.

Over twice the bandwidth use for the same effect.

I have the infamous Win 8.1.1 updates applied and when I click on my OneDrive app, it prompts me to go through the setup process:

However, I don't care to do that but I would have to think that the app should take one somewhere else, other than just opening a folder, but since I'm not an apps guy, I can't say for sure. This guy seems to think it should work as identified in his Figure C:

I'm pretty sure it's because of the leaked update. When opening my SkyDrive Store app I can see it's synching everything before totally opening. My disk-writing LCD light and USB wireless adapter are busy.

I think yours is no longer able to connect to the SkyDrive server, so it defaults or redirects to your File Explorer.

You could try the app troubleshooter to see if that helps.

I would test it but I don't use an MS login so no can do. Maybe David can respond with some additional information. However, if I know David, I doubt that he installed those unofficial updates so we'll see if I am correct when he returns.

Oh, OK. That just goes to show how much I know about apps (see my avatar). Dummy me, I thought that OneDrive might have been available in Win 8.1 proper. Oh well... on with the show. Thanks for that advisement my friend.

It works much like Dropbox if you've synced your stuff. Drag and drop into the folder.

@adamf: That is the easiest and most logical solution; however, since there are many that have already applied those Win 8.1.1 updates, and may be using OneDrive at present, there must be someone that can confirm David's findings or advise him differently.

Well actually I did install the leaked upgrade. For some reason (unknown to me) I had my skydrive folder renamed skydrive.old and it took 3 days to synchnonise only 3GB of data. I didn't complain about it as I'd downloaded a leaked version so it was my problem I thought. We will see what happens.

Thanks for that explanation. So, now we have three forum members (yourself, Edwin, and David) all experiencing different issues with regard to OneDrive and a fourth (me) that looks like it is ready to go but I can't test it because I don't have an MS account. All of this is giving more credence to the fact that the 8.1.1 updates may be the cause (as suggested by Tony and yourself); however, given that we may all have downloaded those updates from different sources, we may be experiencing different results based on same. Here's hoping David will respond soon.
