Disable new titlebar in Modern Apps

    Hello,

After updating to update 1, i am becoming more and more frustrated with the inability to disable modern app title bar that was included in the update. I have absolutely no use for it. it just gets in the way, when using remote desktop and other apps. please tell me there is a way to get rid of this useless "feature" (through registry or otherwise). Thank you

try right click the Taskbar, click Properties and uncheck "Show Windows Store apps on the taskbar"

Let me know if that works?

It's not the taskbar, its the title bar in modern apps when you point to the top it has a bar at the top that comes down and has an X on it.. thats the one im talking about. Already disabled apps on taskbar as i have no use for those either.

OK. Searching around for you, people are calling it a few different things, like "tile bar" "title bar" & the official name which is apparently "window menu" makes searching hard.

Haha, I know tell me about it.. Also the fact the update isnt officially released probably doesn't help. I just cant believe microsoft doesn't have an option to DISABLE it. I mean, we've been without this feature for a year and a half. We've gotten use to not having it. I just don't know why they cant get it right, I mean a disable option shouldnt be that hard to implement... they even did it for windows store apps on the taskbar!

It was brought "by popular demand" and now you guys want to kill it ? I was eagerly awaiting that since first Win8. The "x" is for shutting the App down without going thru contortions to do it. There's also minimizing button there so it's very useful.

Hopefully by the time it gets released someone will have found a way to get rid of this

for me personally I see no point in shutting down these apps, let windows manage them and close them if needed (same as on a tablet or phone)

It's only visible if you mouse to the top of that apps open window? Otherwise its hidden. I like it and use it. For those that don't I'd imagine someone will figure out a reg edit to kill it. Your just going to have to wait for the official release to come out for people to play with. What leaked may not be the actual final version so the tweakers may be just waiting for the official final version, if that even exists lol.

As far as I can tell though clicking the X doesn't actually fully close the App, it just hibernates or something. If I close slacker radio in the middle of a song with the X, and launch it again latter it picks up right where it was when I closed it.

Although I didn't install the leaked updates, I can tell already I'm not going to like this feature. Hopefully in the official release we'll be able to disable it or that it's an added option to turn on.

I understand it's hidden and slides down, but does this omit the drag-down option?

So far as closing Store apps out, when dragging down it doesn't close them altogether, but rather they go into a lower dormant state remaining in RAM ready to reopen instantaneously. One can see how they decrease to this state in Task Manager. The only thing I've found to kill them is Alt/F4 or right click in Task Manager.

No, at least not for me. I can still pull an app down to the bottom of the screen to close it, rather than clicking in the "X".
