    Microsofy Office install problem

I have my main laptop - a Toshiba L550 which I upgraded from 7 to 8 then 8.1. So far no problems until now. I had Microsoft Office Home and Student installed form the day I got the machine and all worked well until the upgrade. I didn't know that something was amiss until I went to use a spreadsheet the other night only to find that only Word was working (had it on the taskbar).

Have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it but clicking on the Microsoft folder in All Programs just makes it vanish and I cannot access any of the applications within it. The program itself is showing up in Control Panel programs and Features so why cannot I access Word or Excel from the All programs list. Is this a feature of 8.1 that I am not aware of as I use Word a great deal in replying to threads in both forums and this is very inconvenient that I cannot.

What I want to do is get at least Word and preferably Excel back as a taskbar icon / start link.

    Any suggestions please.

you should be able to locate the exe files - right click and make an icon or tack one to the task bar. if you create one move it to the taskbar. Runs in my mind it is word.exe for word.

If all else fails, you can try a clean uninstall of whatever Office version you are using and then try the installation again. These MS Fixit programs should get the job done:

How to uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if you cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?

How to uninstall Office 2013 or Office 365

Hope one of the above works for you.

Ok well the first uninstall I did with Revo a I find it a lot better at rooting out the reg stuff but I will jump on the machine and try again and see what the Fix it link can do for me.

Ok I think it has finally done it What I did do was to uninstall from the Control panel then ran it again in Revo - that found some left over reg entries.
Now being the pedantic so and so I am I checked in both the HKEYS > Software and low and behold were entries for Office I deleted them after backing up the reg and ran the install. After installing ran the updates including SP3 which it did before and now everything appears normal again and Office opens out in All programs as should be.

In fact the machine seems to be running a tad faster than of late as I have noticed it slowing down to when I put 8.1 on it.
