Auto Enginuity add ons won't stay activated on Windows 8..

Hey all, new user here. I have a Gateway laptop running Windows 8. I have an auto diagnostics program called Auto Enginuity, I also have a vehicle specific add on purchased. When I put in the key to unlock the add on features, after a couple days it is no longer activated like it was never installed. Now that I have Windows 8.1 it won't even recognize the key unlock code. I would appreciate any and all advice on how to get Windows 8.1 to store and keep my key unlock code. Thanks..Phil

EDIT: I'm also using Microsoft Streets and Trips mapping software and when it says to update the maps,it connects, updates, and when I go back to it,it still says it needs to update. Like it's not registering the updates/ key codes..
