'Store Broker' opens on boot and uses 97% CPU

Dear all,

First post. Desperate for solution.

Have a problem in that whenever I boot my laptop in win 8.1 (pre-installed) the Store Broker opens and immediately starts using excess of 90% of my CPU. In addition I cannot download anything on the Windows Store.
This happens:
Result.PNG

This happens on boot and when I end task in the task manager, it pops up again later, even if I don't open any apps. It always starts when I open Store.

I have been seeking help from Microsoft Communities but despite many hopeful solutions nothing has worked for me (and many others).

See this for main thread (sorry to put this in but there are so many possible solutions I cannot list them all):

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/why-does-store-broker-wshostexe-keep-killing-my/4c878d5d-de09-4648-b844-834383f447f3?page=6

I, and others, have tried everything proposed in the above. For some, some solutions work, for others like me they don't.

Brand new Toshiba laptop. McAfee anti-virus (tried solving by turning off), hardware working fine.

Hoping there may be genius among you who knows how to fix this!

Many thanks.

Well I read through your post and the link to the other one, if I missed something and post something you have already tried let me know, I did a bing search on the subject you are not alone and it seems to be a bug which should be fixed soon, however it seems like the two biggest things causing the problem is one did you go into computer settings through metro and ensure that your Microsoft Account has been verified? Also did you check your clock and date settings to ensure even down to the time zone is correct? If yes or these don't seem to fix it then let me know and we will continue.

See this thread at Microsoft: Windows Store Broker problem: very high CPU usage - Microsoft Community especially the post by DonDuvalXO stating: Installing the optional windows update kb2919394 seems to have fixed this problem for me. Also the one above it stating in part:
Fix Store App in Windows 8.1
Fix Store App in Windows 8.1 - NoTime - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

•Sometimes, after upgrading to Windows 8.1, the Store App may not start.
•It might still show the number of available updates on the Live Tile.
•Starting the app may show a progress ring but it may not finish loading.

•To fix this, run the following in a Command Window (CMD) to re-register the Store App:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

Hi there,

How can I find out if I am verified? I am logged on, I gave all my details when I opened account. Mail works fine etc etc. I have 2 yahoo mail accounts for some reason but I think I am verified if I understand correctly.

My clock is set to right time and zone and I don't have any additional clock apps installed which seemed to cause problems back in 2012 for a lot of people.

Ex_Brit: Thanks for those suggestions but I have tried them all. DonDuvalXO's problem came back after a day even after the update.

Seems what some people are doing is shutting down the Store in the registry until Microsoft fix this.

Open your charm and click on settings, then click on change PC settings. Then click on Accounts and under "Your Account" and in there it should give an option to verify. If it doesn't then you already have a verified account.

Hi David Bailey,

Had no idea that TWC.Win7 had anything to do with Store Broker in Windows 8.1. I am not a power user, yet! Just use the computer for work.

Update: Disabled the Store broker following eightforums tutorial I mentioned earlier.
Computer works beautifully (apart from the fact that the sound cuts out at any volume greater than 50%-any ideas or should I post in a new section?).
Cannot use Store obviously but do not miss it tbh!
Microsoft is gathering log files on the Community website to try and sort the issue. Many people doing same thing as I have done, cutting process and waiting for solution.
I'll keep you posted.

I don't have the broker program so I used TWC as an example of a disabled program. :)
