Accidentally deleted SkyDrive App Tile in Windows 8.1

    Hello,

I'm using Windows 8.1, and I have accidentally deleted the SkyDrive App Tile and am trying to find a way to restore it.

What happened was that I deleted the SkyDrive shortcut in the start menu, only to realise that doing this also deleted the SkyDrive App Tile in Metro View.

Is there a way to restore the SkyDrive App Tile? I have tried searching for SkyDrive under Apps but it isn't there, presumably because it is integrated into Windows 8.1. I also found the SkyDrive menu that the SkyDrive App Tile is a shortcut to under PC Settings, but it doesn't look like it's possible to make a shortcut to it directly from Metro View.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Have a look whether it is still in Apps (the first block). Then right click on it and pin it back.

    @ PureControl :
Is it in the Recycle Bin, if yes right click it and choose Restore, if not
look in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, if the short is there right click it and choose Pin to Start, if not,
look in C:\Windows\FileManager, if the 'SkyDrive' exe is there, right click it and choose 'Pin to Start',
if the .exe file is named 'FileManager' you've got a problem.
However, if you are signed in with your Microsoft account you should meet with success.

    It's not there unfortunately.

It's not in the Recycle Bin, or in C:\...\Start Menu\Programs.

In C:\Windows\FileManager, there is no SkyDrive.exe, there is only a FileManager.exe. What does this mean?

I can't find the SkyDrive tile in the list of Apps, and nothing comes up when I search for SkyDrive in Apps.

I did the same thing and lost the Runtime library along with it.
If you have installation or recovery media you could go to PC Settings►Update and recovery►Recovery and click on 'Get started' under 'Refresh your PC without affecting your files'; it may say 'Some files are missing. Your Windows media will provide these files'.

I'm unwilling to do a Refresh, since I have an Asus T100 which came with Office pre-installed, and Refreshing would uninstall it.

However, I think it's possible to manually create a shortcut, then pin it to the Start Menu so that it appears in Metro View as an "App Tile". (I got the idea from this thread: Sync Settings Shortcut - Create in Windows 8.1)

I just created a shortcut to the "SkyDrive File Storage" screen by doing the following:

    1. Right click on desktop -> New -> Shortcut

    2. Put under "Type the location of the item": %windir%\explorer.exe %localappdata%\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Indexed\Settings\en-US\AAA_SettingsPageAccountsSkyDriveFileStorage.settingcontent-ms

    3. Put under "Type a name for this shortcut": SkyDrive

    4. Right click on the new shortcut -> Properties -> Shortcut -> Change Icon

    5. Put under "Look for icons in this file": %SystemRoot%\FileManager\FileManager.exe

    6. Right click on the shortcut -> Pin to Start

However, this creates a shortcut to the page prior to what the original SkyDrive App Tile was a shortcut to ("See my files on SkyDrive"). Does anyone happen to know how to create a direct shortcut to that?

Go to Windows Search for Skydrive. See what comes up.

How about trying this update. Maybe it brings the whole thing back. It may be a long shot, but worth trying.

Update improves SkyDrive experience in Windows RT 8.1 and Windows 8.1

PS: I have the Asus T100 since last month. Nice little machine. Amazingly fast.
