A few SkyDrive.exe files, folders and other misc (e.g. logo) files come up, but I've tried creating shortcuts to the .exe files and they just bring me back to the desktop. I've looked through the folders and other files as well.

Update improves SkyDrive experience in Windows RT 8.1 and Windows 8.1

PS: I have the Asus T100 since last month. Nice little machine. Amazingly fast.
Just tried the update, it didn't bring the App Tile back. Good suggestion though.

It looks like the best alternative for now is to create a shortcut to that settingcontent file. The original App Tile was a bit more convenient though. It's frustrating that there seems to be no way to restore it bar a system restore/refresh.

    Any other suggestions are welcome.

That's why I made images from day1. I use free Macrium and store the images on a 64GB MicroSD card and on an external 60GB SSD that I had lying around. If you are interested, I send you a special .iso for the recovery program. The one that you can produce from Macrium does not recognize the MicroSD card although making images to the card is no problem.

You could restore to your last restore point. Assuming you installed office before you'll be OK.

I can't find the SkyDrive tile in the list of Apps, and nothing comes up when I search for SkyDrive in Apps.
Do you still have the SkyDrive folder? If so, as you say, you may have just deleted the tile like you said. With that go to C:\Windows\System32, and look for the SkyDrive icon. Click it and see if it'll give you the tile back.

    Good luck

If you can find the .exe in the system32 folder, you can right click on it and pin it to Start.

I did think of this, but unfortunately I don't have any restore points to before this happened.

I had previously located that Skydrive.exe file. Nothing happened when I tried to open it, and the SkyDrive App tile did not reappear.

For some reason it's not in the Recycle Bin, even though it was a shortcut that I deleted from the Start Menu.

I pinned it to Start, but pressing the SkyDrive.exe tile that is subsequently created in Metro View just brings me back to the desktop. So the SkyDrive App function wasn't restored by doing this.

And thanks for your offer regarding the image, but I'd prefer not to have to resort to using recovery if possible. Although it looks like I might have to at this rate...

I've posted this issue on the Microsoft forums - if they come up with a solution I'll post it here.

Out of curiosity how did you wind up deleting the app that it did this amount of damage? Seems weird that simply deleting a tile should result in this amount of damage. Especially since you can't even get the .exe working. And also considering the app is integrated into 8.1

I'm thinking it took a little bit more than a simple delete.

All I did was delete the SkyDrive shortcut from the Start Menu under All Programs. (I've installed the program "Start Menu 8", which brings up the traditional Start Menu when you press the Start Button.)

Then when I switched to Metro View the SkyDrive App tile was missing, and SkyDrive was no longer in the list of Apps. If I had known that would happen I wouldn't have deleted the Start Menu shortcut.

I'm guessing it's because having some of the Apps (SkyDrive, possibly Camera, etc.) appear in Metro View is dependent on them being in the Start Menu? The frustrating thing is that there doesn't seem to be any way to restore them if you happen to delete them - when I deleted the Start Menu shortcut, I'm pretty sure it did not go to the Recycle Bin, and as far as I know there is no "App Recycle Bin".

I can still get to the SkyDrive App though - it's under PC Settings -> SkyDrive -> "See my files on SkyDrive" - so the App itself hasn't been deleted. But having the App tile as a direct link to that would obviously be a bit more convenient.

Go into the store and right click a space there. on the top you will see an option "Your Apps".
Click this. You will get a whirling circle of dots, for quite a while, as it searches to see what you have installed. Finally it will show all. Have a look and see if one drive is sitting there. Right click it and install.
