How Do I Remove The NEW Off Newly Installed Programs

Hi,
There used to be an easy way under Windows 7 to disable the "highlight newly installed programs". I cannot however find how to disable this. Any help would be appreciated,

Hey mate,

RIGHT-click taskbar and select properties. Click Start Menu tab. Select Customize. Scroll down to the proper selection and UN-check it. OK and you're set!

I think if you open them then it removes the NEW.

I don't see those options in Windows 8.1, there is no Start Menu tab. I think the OP wants to remove the "New" that is shown on the Metro Start Menu for newly installed Apps. He was referring to Windows 7 as an example. That's how I read it anyway. Mine are all gone so they must time out at some point because I haven't launched all of them. That or Update 1 got rid of the New tag.

I don't think you can do this I have looked for a way to do this before. I do as Phone Man say just instally open the application. Also Alphanumeric I beleive is right because applications I have installed and not used, NEW disappeared over a period of time.

Although if it annoys you the notification saying a new app is installed that can open that file.. take a look at this tutorial:

Phoneman is correct. You use the program once and it is no longer "NEW". That is how it works for me.

No mate, he specifically mentioned windows 7 and it's feature, and programs, not apps

I was referring to the desktop taskbar, not the Start Screen

Edit: I could be wrong though. Guess we'll wait for him to post back? Don't think there is anything like this for the Apps themselves, is there? I don't have anything that says 'new app' when I get a new one...?

Just installed the facebook app. It has 'new' in the all apps area, but once pinned to start screen, it disappears.

It is open to interpretation, . The "There used to be an easy way under Windows 7" made me think he was using it as an example and was trying to find the equivalent setting in 8. I had to double check to make sure I was in 8 forums before I replied. Like you said we'll just have to wait and see.

^ Yea sorry, that is why I added the edit. I don't mean to sound pompous. Thanks for stating your perspective. I would be curious to know how to 'turn off' the 'new' feature you mentioned for the Apps

Don't worry about it, I didn't take any offence to anything you said. If that had been posted in 7 forums I would have said exactly what you did originally.
