I have seen this on all pcs (not macs) on windows 8 and 7
When installing the latest version of iTunes, when you try to open the iTunes icon you get an error msg that it is missing a certain dll
and if you reboot the machine you get the same msg
To fix this:
Go to Program and Features:
Uninstall the following:
iTunes
Mobile Apple
Bonjour
Icloud
Apple Application Support
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support

(note- Apple Mobile Device Support will not
come out but that is not a problem)
reboot the machine
then download the iTunes software again and and install then you should be fine

AMDS issue

Trying to install AMDS, on my Toshiba C55A Laptop – Intel Celeron N2820 2.13 Ghz 64 bit, fully updated genuine Windows 8.1

It does not install and rolls back AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi (this file is extracted by winrar from the itunes.exe)

Message saying:
The Apple Mobile Device Support won’t be installed on your computer

The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured
Your system has not been modified
To retry the operation at a later time, run installer again.

This way did not work out for me.

Apple suggest that your download Itunes as a file.
Open it with Winrar, and download each itunes file seperately, but the Mobile Device Support refused to download
