Skype in Windows 8.1 - Return to classic peformance

    Dear Sir/Madame,

I searched and couldn't find a solution to my case.

I purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 OS pre-installed and SKYPE application pre-installed as well.

This new way of Skype behavior is very annoying. Please advise if there is a way how I may return into classical use of Skype, as it was in Windows XP and Windows 7, where I had a Skype shortcut on my desktop and clicking the Shortcut opens the Skype application directly in the desktop.

Please help, as this new feature when Skype in Windows 8 opens in a new lay out feature is very uncomfortable and unfamiliar.
Please suggest and advise how to get back to the previous classical way of behavior for Skype.

Thanking you in advance for your kind assistance,

    Alexander

You can download the desktop version here - it seems you want the desktop version - not the windows 8 metro version.

    Downloading and setting up Skype

You need to uninstall the metro version as well (right click) on the start screen icon and click uninstall or else you when answer on the desktop and the metro app keeps on ringing ...

Thank you adamf for your help.
I will follow your instructions later on this evening, when I get home and reach the laptop and will suddenly let you know, if this solution is working with me.

When I received this new 'puter a few days ago I tried using the Win 8 version and found there was no option to get out of the full screen.

I have Windows 8.1 on two laptops. My older Toshiba laptop is having the Windows 8 "know issue" with 100% disk usage. I upgraded it to Windows 8 from Vista a year or two ago. I've tried all the supposed solutions, don't have a virus and have lost patience with trying to fix the problem. ...

Hey guys, I have a rather st**id problem. I installed Windows 8.1 on my new lap top a few days ago (Thanks Superfly and popeye). Then I wanted to make it look and function more like Windows 7, so I installed Classic Shell and got my Start button to look and function as it does on Windows 7...

I've had both joys and frustrations using Windows 8. Many things feel like a throwback to ages gone by. Microsoft boasts that Windows 8 has faster boot times. But this isn't the case if you use a multiple boot OS. Instead of the quick prompt style boot menu, you are presented with a...
