Access Win7 Macrium Reflect Free backup in Win8.1

I have an external drive with a substantial number of backups made from a Win7 laptop. My attempts to access these backups from a recently installed Win8.1Pro desktop result in "You have been denied permission to access this folder". This message appears after assigning a drive letter to the backup and I attempt to access a folder within the backup. Advice on how best to proceed to gain access will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Maybe 'take ownership' will help. See Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 8

Would it were that easy. Even after "Taking Ownership" but not getting the pause even when requested. I can thus not say why it didn't work.

What does happen is that the selected folder is scanned for what I don't know. But at the end I get a message to use the security tab. Attempts to gain access that way also failed.

Turns out the issue was simpler to resolve. See this Marcium forum post. Just check the box for access to restricted folders.

Seems the fly in the ointment for sticking an image on the Macrium Reflect Boot Rescue USB is that they want the USB to be FAT32. The 4 GB file size limit is a killjoy. Has anyone got around it? Right now I have backup images on another partition of my HD. But if partitions got badly hosed I...
