Paint Shop Pro 7 is installed on my Windows 8 computer yet when I open a picture it is not an option to open with it.
I prefer this, even though some of the options are newer and better because I know PSP7 inside and out and can maneuver and edit so much better than learning a new program. I don't really want to learn a new program.

Why isn't it an option?
How can I make it an option?

Does it give you the option to set it as the default program in Control Panel > Default Programs > Set your default programs? There are a couple of tutorials at the following links that give a few different ways for setting default programs to open files:

Set Your Default Programs in Windows 8:

Open with - Change Default Program in Windows 8 (Option 2, Number 3 - To Select a Program that is Not Listed in Context Menu):

It isn't in the list to select from. When I installed it no window came up for me to select default either.

Thanks for the research. I never thought to look in that direction.

It works fine in 8 I just can't select it. :(

Thank you.
(I don't think I'll be buying a whole new program.)

Maybe this info about 3/4 down page will help PSP 7 - Customizing
Once you set the association for one type, it should at PSP7 to that list. I would think.
[h=2]File Locations[/h]File>Preferences>File Locations

[h=2]File Format Associations[/h]File>Preferences>File Format AssociationsThis dialog box allows you to determine which file format associations will be assigned to Paint Shop Pro. You can choose the association by placing a check mark in the box to the left of the file association name. You can choose to "Select All" or "Remove All" associations. It is generally a good idea to remove all associations if you plan on un-installing Paint Shop Pro. Besides assigning an association to Paint Shop Pro, you can also add to the associations assigned to each file format.

To Old: It's not on the list to select from.

PC RAT... I checked all gif, jpg we'll see what happens.

WTG PCRAT... I can now right click on any photo and select PCP7 or any other paint program to open. Yay!!!! I almost bought the newest version for $32. but it looked all different and it would be just like learning a new program anyway. At age 70, I prefer to stick with the one I know and the one I can really work well with. Thank you!!!!!!!

You're welcome Barbee. Glad you don't have to learn a new program and saved $32.

Good grief, went to edit some photos today and guess what? PSP7 is not in the options AGAIN. I'll try to repeat the above. I can't figure out how it keep changes unless it's the MS updates.
