    Close all open metro windows/apps

I have a Windows RT tablet so all my apps are pretty much in the metro/modern UI.

Is there a way to quickly close all open apps? Right now I have to swipe down on each app. I was hoping there was a faster way.

    Hello orlandotek,

If you like, you could use OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to close all modern apps at once by deleting the app switching history.

Apps - Close in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

Thanx! That works although its not very fast. But, just what I asked for.

Just FYI. In Windows RT step #1 on your list does not work. BUT, you can drag each window 1/2th of an inch to the right and then drag it down to the bottom to close it and it will drop off that menu.

Thank you. I'll add to OPTION ONE now.

If you like, you can create a shortcut using the location below to open directly to the App switching page in PC settings to help make it a little faster to use to clear app history.

The shortcut will only work in Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 though.

    Code:
    %windir%\explorer.exe %localappdata%\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Indexed\Settings\en-US\AAA_SettingsPageAppsSwitching.settingcontent-ms

    I wanted to clarify.

In Windows RT 8.1 Option one does work with a mouse. You can right
click on the apps on the left side bar to close each one. However, you cannot
use touch to do this. If you hold and press on any of the boxes, it does nothing.

Thanx for the shortcut. Works great!

How does 2, 3, and 4 below work for you? They work on the touchscreen on my Surface 2 Pro.

    As for Step 2 -

Alt+F4 works fine on my keyboard to close the current metro app in Windows RT

I really don't know what D) is talking about as my Windows close the same way they did in Windows 8 as they do in Windows 8.1 (RT of course). Just put the mouse cursor at the top of the screen, wait for the hand, then press left mouse button and drag to the bottom. It closes with no problem. Same with using touch. Drag it down to the bottom. I'm not sure what this "wait 2 seconds until app flips over" thing is. I just drag the window to the bottom and it closes and disappears. Easy as pie.

Option 3 works fine as does option 4.

Oh, okay. I am never too old to learn.

"To thoroughly kill an app in 8.1, you close it as normal but when you are at the bottom of the screen, hold it for three seconds and you'll see the app window flip over to the slash window. It is dead"

I did not understand this is what you were talking about in step D). Yes, this does work in Windows RT.
