but, Actually Windows 8 comes with built in smartscreen protection. So it isn't so unsafe than with xp, vista or even 7.

    Well Dusty,

i am on Win8 now for about 3 months and do not worry about viruses right now.

Free antivirus do not work as should.

Example, i used Avast free AV and when having a virus in Outlook, Avast could not remove it. But i forced Avast to remove it anyway and the whole PST file was removed.....

The difference with F-Secure and others, which are not free, they remove the record....

    but thanks

Right now my worry is that i am not in control of my PC, not viruses.

I don't have access to Windows 8 right now. But I think it had access to Group Policies.

So thats what you can do:

    1. open (run as admin) group policy editor (press start type gpedit.msc ) Alternatively C:\Windows\System32\gpedit.msc
    2. Navigate to: User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer
    3. On the right side find setting called "Disable changing home page settings"

    4. Double click on it and change it Enabled and put in your desired home page

Now nothing can change your homepage. Only way to change it through the same menu again.

But I would still recommend to find the core of the problem, what is changing it in the first place?

Keep in mind Win 8 is still just going through testing, nothing is solid yet. It might not even be perfect when they start rolling it out, that is why they send out Service Packs and updates. If you have problems now, I wouldn't worry about it at the moment. You can send microsoft a little note about the problem and hope they fix it (higher chance of them fixing it if you do). Be patient

    Well Jav,

Probably it will be ok, but i let you and everyone know, since......this can happen to anyone.

I search for a long time and still haven't found anything. Strange....

Hi Jeff, try this; Go to the Norton website, and download the Nortons 360 v6 beta, let it scan your system.
360 works perfect in Windows 8DP. I'm not only talking about only the AV, just run all the tests. It is quick so you won't be sitting there for days waiting for it to complete.

    ok Mike and Kynix,

    will try this out.

In the meantime and for the first time since weeks, my Yahoo.com is not changed. Thank you Jav, you solved my problem.

This can help a lot of guys here.

    Jeff

Forgot, i am running f-secure on-line scan right now. Strange because my own F-Secure is not (or was not) working on Windows 8. Will try to reinstall it.
