Solved DVD Copy – how?

I have a Windows 7 32-bit OS install disc. I want to make an exact redundant copy of the medium (i.e. a system disc that boots - to de-risk having to pay more money for another copy of what I already own if this one gets scratched/damaged) and if at some point I need to do a full re-install on one of my laptops that has the COE sticker on the bottom and no OEM partition that includes the factory image.

What is the best app/method to achieve this on my Windows 8.1 desktop?

Can I do that with native software? If not, is there a standard app that people use on Windows 8?

Thank you!

Me so corny

Yeah, I copied all the files over to a new disc but it's not bootable.

With the old floppy A:\ drives there was a double-secret file like sys.com or something that was the mini-OS the BIOS on your machine would boot from. Whatever that file is for Win-7, I need to copy that over along with the regular files.

I guess I need one of the standard apps to do that (PowerISO, UltraISO, ISOhorney..) but not sure what is what.

If anyone has tried a bunch of these apps, and knows the score, or a nifty [free] alternative, much appreciated if you share the fruits of your vast, superior, and shining knowledge...!

All of the ones you mentioned will do it as well as several others, MagicIso, Gburner, etc. The free versions limit editing iso files, but they all allow creating images from dvd, mounting and burning.

Put the dvd in the drive, select create image/make image file from the context menu

@fireberd
I must admit, your “should work” and “CDBurnerXP” product name had me concerned, but the product requirements page mentions Win7 and Win8.

The app couldn't be easier. Problem solved!

Thank you.
