Programs launched from start screen run through desktop

    Hi!
I want to understand why this is happening? I would like to run all my programs directly from the start screen, not switching to desktop view. My friend has Windows 8 and he is running everything directly from start screen mode. I have Win 8.1 and I don't want to go to the desktop mode since then programs run under desktop and loose the functions available in start screen mode.

    Hi,
What is your actual problem here? Are your apps like mail running via desktop?

Some are directly, like skype and mail, and some are via desktop, like word 2013, photoshop, chrome. And another problem is that when I open desktop and some native program side by side, then all desktop icons shift into another place. Really stupid.

Word 2013, chrome and other programs like that are desktop apps, They just run the old win 7 way. They have to make the programs available for windows 7 and 8 so thats why they made it a desktop app. You can make shortcuts on your start screen to be able to run them quick but that does not mean their special apps. Mail and Skype are special made apps to run as seperate apps, not via desktop but desktop apps just run via desktop.

Putting your desktop side by side with an other app indeed does shift some stuff. I dont think there is a way arround it..

I see on my friends laptops that they have all four resizing choices available on their Desktop tile in the start menu. I don't know why but I do not have the large option available, as you can see in the picture attached. I'd like to have it like the tile next to it. I'm running 8.1. Any ideas?

I've tried just about everything, but can't seem to find a setting to stop this action. Been playing with this new PC, getting to know Windows 8. Metro isnt gonna work for me, so I'll be using the desktop mostly. Don't like the little corner popups - these probably have a name but I have not seen it - I disabled them with classic shell. But at times I want to go to the Metro start...
Hi. After update to win8.1 all of my apps (incl. Explorer) on start-screen opens in a total black screen without options, and the app goes into freeze. This is only one of several problems: I canīt open the control panel either, and when I try to see my Pictures a dialog states: "The remote...
