Win 8 problems

Hi Guy's. Just been given a Lenovo G580 Laptop, which I think is very nice. Sadly I cannot get it online, nor do I really want to if I am honest. But I would dearly love to put a nice little opiece of writer software and maybe a couple of games on it. But how do I do this? I do have a PC which runs Win XP Pro. I am on the Internet with this set up. I have a cable with two identical USB connectors, one at each end. Would this enable me to download some Win 8 software to my Lenovo using the PC ? I would appreciate any help that the experts can give me. Many thanks. Walt.

If the programs were downloaded to your PC and you didn't use a CD to install the program why don't you just use a USB flash drive or any USB external hard drive and transfer the files over to your Lenovo laptop?
