Photo App Crashing

Hi All,

I have an odd problem with my Photo app on Windows 8.1 (although I am not sure if this was happening before I upgraded from 8).

Basically, every time I start the Photo app, it will run for about 5-10 seconds before crashing and returning to the Metro start screen. The live tile works fine.

I do not get any error messages so cannot determine what is causing this issue. Is there a way of finding the error message? I have also changed the default program for picture files to Windows Picture Viewer, but changing this back does not solve the problem.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hello Jonny,

You might see if going through the troubleshooting steps in the tutorial below may be able to help. Since you are only having an issue with the Photo App, you might see if uninstalling and reinstalling (#20) it first may help.

Thanks for your quick answer.

I tired Step 1, but the Troubleshooter did not find anything wrong except that there was a connection issue (I have an internal static IP set, but the connection is fine).

With regards to uninstalling/installing the Photo app, it is not listed under the "App Sizes" section under "PC Settings". I can see all the other Apps, "Weather", "Mail, Calendar and People" and "News" etc., but not the Photo app - Is the Photo app listed on yours?

Hmm. It looks like the Photo app cannot be uninstalled.

Go ahead and go through the other steps to see if one may help. If all else fails, others have reported that they work fine when signed in to a new user account.
