I need to backup my photos and just realised I don't have a program to do it now. Can anyone point me in the right direction for one that is free to use and download please. Does windows 8 already have one built in, if so where is it cos I don't seem to be able to find it.
Thanks for any help.

Windows 8 has a backup program built in called file recovery but windows 8.1 does not have that.

File recovery allows you to choose whether you want to backup your libraries or create an entire image of your OS.

I wonder what happened to it on windows 8.1...

Anyway, you can open file recovery by searching windows 7 file recovery in the search bar in control panel.

Are you wanting to burn them to a disc? If so windows can do that natively. Just select your pictures you want, select the share tab, then select burn to disc.

You have 7Gb of backup space on Skydrive, plus 50Gb on Dropbox, from there you can download them to other devices to create a local backup.

Alternatively, insert a USB stick or SD Card and drag them to there. People are moving away from burners, most laptops don't even have them fitted nowadays.

There are plenty of free burners around, but you can copy data to dvd natively in win7/8/8.1 Dvd's are handy and cheap, so if you are lucky enough to have a dvd drive, might as well use it.

My dropbox account only has 2 GB, the free account. How do you get 50 GB for free?

By sending yourself an email with a link to Dropbox, and a few other ways on their website you can get up to 50Gb for free.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I have found the windows media centre but it does not like to play ball with my photos. I have put them on the list to burn and when I checked them after on the disc they were not the ones I had copied over.
Never mind though, I will look at what you all have advised for me and work from there. Cheers everyone.
