Hi all
as far as I know if you install Windows 8 on the SAME computer you originally had W7 on (or even XP) where you activated Office 2010 - activation should cause NO problems --and won't count in the number of activations if you go back to W7 (or even XP).

Actually the strange thing is I never even got asked to activate office 2010 but it did ask me before installing it to enter the product key and I had to wait while this was verified before the install could continue.

If you DO run into problems activate by phone -- Ms won't give you ANY hassles if you are saying you are testing Office 2010 on W8 development preview.

Enterprise versions (Office 2007) and terminal services product key for 2010 are legal multiple activations so won't cause a problem anyway.

Just posted this in case people want to try Office (2007 / 2010) on W8 but are worried about losing activation status if they decide to go back to their original OS (XP / W7 ). I've left out VISTA as I don't think many can still be using this anymore.

Cheers
jimbo

I installed Office 2010 on my Windows 8 Comp and all was well until recently. Now when i open an Office application it asks for a registration key change. If i input the original key, it is verified, and then goes through the install process. This happens every time I open an office application.
I'm leery to purchase another copy of MS Office for fear the same thing will occur.

I've had something similar to Kentlang. I installed Office 2010 on my new win8 box and all was fine for a couple of days. Then Excel started crashing as soon as I touched the open app. Meanwhile, I was having all kinds of Windows Update/Defender issues. Just solved those, and now NONE of the Office apps will even launch. :/

I have been running Office Pro Plus 2010 on my Windows 7 computer for a year and a half. I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and for some reason it asked me to reactivate my Office 2010. I tried the online activation, but it said it was an invalid key. So, I did the phone activation, and it also rejected the installation ID for the same reason. I uninstalled and reinstalled it...accepted the key as valid on installation, but when it asked for me to activate it, same result. Any ideas how to get this running?
