So there's my start screen and as you can see, the only program that is not Windows' built-in is Skype but actually I've installed several programs. The problem is, the installed programs don't appear on the start screen, like what windows 8.0 did. They showed on the app screen. My windows is MSDN 8.1 Pro.

How to set all installed programs to appear on start screen?

Thank you. :party:

Hello partogi,

I do not think there is a way to automatically do that at present; however, this link provides an intuitive way to do it manually after each program/app install. You probably already new how but I just wanted to make sure and also confirm your observation. Good luck.

BTW, I see we are on the same page again. What a coincidence...

Hello my2cents, thanks for replying.

It's too bad they don't include the option for programs to be automatically listed on start screen. Also, I can't see network estimated usage anymore.

Yea, perhaps a fated encounter.:cool:

On the Apps Screen, choose sort "by date installed". Right click on the apps you want selected. Choose Pin to Start.

Also, I can't see network estimated usage anymore.

That's interesting because I thought it was supposed to work if the option were enabled. However, I don't have a network configuration that would support that feature but see here for more information;

Just an update here. So, I did test it on 8.1 Preview and it still works but this laptop has wifi w/no special network configuration. So, I'm wondering if wifi is a prerequisite for this feature to work or is it just missing from 8.1 RTM because I do not have a PC with wifi capabilities running on 8.1 RTM.

Wow, my bad. I don't know that it should be enabled on network settings.

I can see my network usage now, Thanks! :thumb:

"Pin to Start" will also be on right-click context menu of executables in File Explorer.

Cool stuff. Thanks for this.

So, in summary, we have confirmed that the data measuring feature does exist in Windows 8.1 RTM; however, there appears to be an additional requirement to have wifi capabilities or that feature will not be visible (per my testing with my 8.1 RTM desktop with no wifi capabilities). I am just using an ethernet connection to a router and I did not have that option. Now, if anyone else can add additional information to either confirm or dispute this discovery, it would be much appreciated, as we continue to evaluate the new 8.1 RTM.

Cheers!
