I want to use Windows Live Essentials on Windows and a confused about which version to download -- 2010 or 2012.
Have run across info on 2012 and from what I can determine, WLM in 2012 seems to be just for W7. Will that be OK for Win 8?

Thank you.

Looks like it will:

So, are you interested in just one program in the package or do you intend to use them all? The reason I'm asking is because I have found some individual solutions that work better and are lighter on resources as well. Anyway, it should work for you. Good luck.

Thank you.

Actually, I am just interested in the mail (WLM) part of it and if required for visual notification of new email, the maybe messenger

OK, I don't have a specific alternative recommendation for Windows Live Mail so go for it and good luck.

Windows Essentials Forum

It is a cold, rainy day here and I am recovering from surgery so I have some 'take it easy time' on my hands. So I am trying to install Essentials' Live Mail and wonder if the is a Microsoft Community Essentials forum anywhere such as there is for Office and Answers Home Page? If there is, I sure can't find it!

Thank you very much.

Hello JJG,

It's really a matter of what forum best fits the main subject of your issue. :)

For WLM, you could post in Browsers & Mail.

For Office, you could post in Software and Apps.

Getting Help for Windows Essentials

I thought I had posted a question earlier about this under a different title but I can't find my post anywhere so I guess I didn't. Anyway, I am looking for a forum or website devoted to help by being alble to ask questions about Windows Essentials particularly about Mail. I have looked at Windows Live Solution Center (http://www.windowslivehelp.com/, am old bookmark in Firefox) but the site tries to open and I immediately get message saying the 'Page Was Reset.' Is that no longer a valid site?

I really would like to find a dedicated support site to help me get Windows Essentials Mail set up the way I want it to be.

Thank you very much

This is the new url. Windows Essentials - Download Windows Live Essentials

The support pages (particularly for mail) are at Windows Essentials - Microsoft Windows Help

What specifically do you need help with? What do you mean by "how you want it"?

Thanks, Mystere.

I went to Windows Essentials - Microsoft Windows Help as you suggested and then to 'Help from the community' and was directed to
the Outlook.com, SkyDrive category. None of the other categories seemed to have anything to do with Mail. Did I miss something?

Why would you do that? The page has a dozen or so answers to questions about configuring Mail. Mail is not a very extensive application, so chances are any additional help you are seeking.. the answer is likely "It can't do that".

Again, I ask... What specifically do you need help with? What do you mean by "how you want it"?

As it turns out you are correct in saying "it can't do that."

I wanted to ask if I could import a calendar into Live Mail. The answer is no.
I also wanted to know if I could get a visual notification, some call it 'toast', when new email arrives. Again the answer is no.

It seems strange to me that MS woin't allow you to post questions on the site you mentioned.

Thanks again.

Windows Essentials is essentially a legacy application and will not be updated going forward to my knowledge. As such, the support is more or less in a limbo as well. Essentials used to be run by the Messenger team, but now that Messenger is dead and Skype is taking over, Essentials is just a few tools left that have no real home.
