I recovered my C and D partitions from a True Image 2013 Nonstop backup and found that a number of apps would not run. Windows message to the effect that the app could not be started.
Tried from two different time stamps with same result. Eventually had to recover from a previous full backup.
Contacted Acronis Support to find that free support is only available for 30 days after purchase of the product!
I had thought that 1 year was the standard for most products.
I have had a couple of issues with recoveries in the past and can never determine if the product is the culprit or if Windows 8 is to blame.
I only purchased the product because W8 had dropped the shadow file capability which was available with W7.

Is the answer to revert to W7, or find another backup/recovery product??

Hi Hairy Scott,

Maybe I am not technically inclined to the point where I can answer your question with details; however, I can still use the old Win 7 "create system image" on Win 8 and I thought that required the shadow volume copy ability. However, I know for sure they removed it on 8.1 preview:

Sorry if I misunderstood your question.

Sorry if I misunderstood your question.

Thank for the info.
I tried out 8.1 yesterday and it made a dog's dinner of a number of things on my system so I will not be going down that path.
I don't think using W7 Backup/Recovery enables the shadow copy feature for files.

Ok, thanks for that. I knew there was something more and I cannot answer that specific question. Hang in there because I'm sure someone will be able to respond accordingly. Good luck to you!
