Hello
I have Office 2010 which came preinstalled on my Dell 8300 XPS. I have the key and have recovered the program in the past.

If I Refresh my pc, and find the folder Windows. Old, can I get the Office program out of it or do I have to download from a site and install again?

Obviously I don't know what is in the folder nor what it allows you to retrieve .
I do know that when done with it you can delete it.

I hope I can retrieve some of the progrms and apps that refresh removes and that is not hard to do. Perhaps I just open the folder, locate the program, and copy and paste it or click 'reinstall'.
Thank you
Peter

Hello Peter,

Unfortunately, you'll need to have the installer for the programs to reinstall them again. You will not be able to reinstall them from the Windows.old folder. :(

MS Office Home and Student 2010

Hello
I do not know enough to be able to use the .Old folder as I don't know how to use/get installers.
I assume the reason for the .Old folder is that skilled users can make use of it, or is that incorrect.
I don't mean to split hairs but do wish to understand and learn. Maybe a person like me could get a file out of it and paste it somewhere.

Also, regarding MS Office Home and Student 2010, 64 bit, I tried, with both pcs, to install it. But, it never would until I got a link. I have the link in a folder, but am not sure if I can post it. I will if I am allowed.

My Office came preloaded with Dell and no matter where we went it would not install as a 32 bit even though 32 is recommended. I finally got the 64 bit from either MS or Dell and then it would install.

It is a real negative to think that if I refresh or reinstall cleanly, I have to use the link as I have ben told I can only do so x amount of times. It seems odd that I bought it but don't own it as if I had a disc.

Unless the link specifies 64 bit it will not install. Many times I want to format or use Fresh but I don't want to lose Office.

Thank you for your kind comments and I hope to hear regarding my replies,
Peter

Office 64 bit

Hello Bassfisher
I had a hard time finding the right Office Home and Student 2010 64 bit . Sorry.
Please let me know if the disc I just made is done right so I can install Office if I format, please.

I made an attachment of the file I use to install Office by saving it to desktop.

First I used the link MS gave me which I saved. I clicked save as desktop.
I then used my burner to create the dvd. It took about 2 minutes.
I notice the file says .exe not .iso on the desktop so I don't know if it is installable.
I don't know where I can test it without doing harm to a computer.
I verified the disc but wish to know if it will install Office when the time comes by just inserting the disc and installing the contents.
Thank you
Peter

>>Hello Brink
Thank you for the response. I understand about the installer.
Bassfisher is trying to walk me through making a disc with the file I have.
Peter.

MS Office Home and Student 2010 64 bit

Hello again
Sorry to bother you but I wanted you to know it I created the disc.
I inserted the disk and after about 2 minutes of humming it asked me if I wanted to repair, remove, enter 25 digit characters etc. I think this means had I entered the digits which I have separately for the laptop and desktop, it would have installed?
Do you think this is correct although it said .exe and not .iso?

I did not go past this point as I had no reason to reinstall office which is working well.

I hope when I do give the digits that Office will install.

MS sent me a link (X16-31970) which differed from mine(X17-75161) ; they were insistent that 32 bit would be ok for my pc until I told them that after formatting 32 does not install. I don't have Outlook etc. in my office so it may be a limited version or something.

Thank you very much for helping me.

Peter

Before you ask....it says that the download contains all suites and based on what key you have is to what gets installed....

Note: Contains Office Home and Student 2010, Office Home and Business 2010 and Office Professional 2010. The suite edition that corresponding to the product key type will be activated after installed.

Office

I am sorry to be so dense and pestering but I don't get the .exe and the iso file difference regarding installation..
This is what I see but it seems to be another exe file not iso.

"English 64-bit (x64):X16-31970.exeBrazilian Portuguese 32-bit (x86): X16-31999.exe
Note: Contains Office Home and Student 2010"

I had another link MS gave me which worked when I just ran the link. I am having trouble understanding if what I am doing is actually installing Office or just allowing me to run it off the dvd.

I have my functional .exe link burned and need to know if it only runs off the dvd or is actually installed.

The file above is what MS just sent and is .exe.
Will downloading an exe file and burning it to a dvd actually install Office or just run off the dvd while the dvd is in the machine?
I realize this is a pain but I do appreciate your support. I am trying to be as clear as I possibly can.

Hey Peter,

You could just run the .exe file from your desktop to install office. :)

Office

Great news.!!!
I used the exe file which I always use to install Office from the link itself. But this time I download to desktop and then burned it. After I inserted it, it hummed for 2 minutes then opened with a selection; repair, use 25 characters, remove, etc.
I went no further as Office is running well.

I will be refreshing and wanted a disc to count on.

**The whole issue was that I did not know an exe file could be burned to install a program ; I thought it was only an iso that could do it.

Both of you were very patient and I am greatly appreciative for what you did. Thank you very, very much. :thumb:

P.S. I would like you both to know I researched as much as I could on my own before I came to the forum for help.
