IS there any tool, which will enable me to controll the brightness with some re-assigned short keys ?? I have a Sony Vaio Laptop but the thing is that the utility for my laptop which is responsible for Brightness control is not comparable with Windows 8, so I am searching for some tool/software which will help me to control my screen brightness.
Thanks

Thank you very much dear Brink. Appreciate all your useful tutorials. Right now I have another question, though, which is somewhat related to this thread.
Is it possible to adjust screen brightness in Windows 8 by assigning a keyboard shortcut to it? If not directly from the windows itself, maybe by using some sort of utility or a hack ?
I have a Sony VAIO VPCEB1S1E/BJ laptop and I installed Windows 8, which is not officially supported by Sony for this laptop and the only problem I have as a comparability is to make Sony brightness control software to work on this Windows!
Would be glad to hear from you, I hope there is some solution for this, thanks.

Hello Haikgh,

You might see if you may be able to use compatibility mode with the Sony software to see if that may allow it to run properly afterwards.
Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Hello Brink.
Thanks for response. I know what is "comparability mode" and I did run it,, which helped me to install the utilities which are responsible for controlling the brightness and the sound. The sound works fine, it shows the sound scale and it does control the sound (Up and Down), BUT when i try to control the brightness (with Fn+F5,F6), I do get the on-screen scale, but whether I increase or decrease ,, it's just being reduced to maximum darkness and just staying in that level! All though I am able to control it with all the methods described in you thread >>"How to Adjust the Display Screen Brightness in Windows 8"<< I would still like to have an option to control the brightness on my Windows 8 with some keyboard shortcut.
I know there are software trough which it is possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to control the sound level, but I have never seen something like that for brightness, is that so hard to do? to make such a piece of software which would enable the user to control that slider in the Power Options with keyboard shortcut ?
Thanks again and have a good day :)
