Can win 8 be run in Win XP mode?

Can win 8 be run in Win XP mode?

I have a need to to run a WinXP program and it will not run under Win 8.

There is not an update available for this application.

    Kind regards,

    Walter

As far as I know there is no XP Mode for Windows 8. It's an installable extra feature for Windows 7, but there is no Windows 8 version. You can try compatibility mode, its not the same thing, but it might work.

There is no XP Mode for Win 8. However, XP Mode can be closely mimiced by using Hyper-V, VirtualBox, VMWare Player or other software to create a VM running XP which is pretty much what XP Mode on Win 7 is. The difference is that XP Mode also provided its own licensed copy of XP Pro whereas the VM route requires you to provide your own copy of XP.

I got around the problem by digging out an old laptop which I had almost dumped as it is sooo slow which is running XP.

    Thanks to all that responded.

OK, I was fooling around with IE 10 and at some point it got into a state where it only starts in desktop mode. I followed some directions for how to select the mode, but my mode choice is greyed out for some reason. Any idea why?
