Solved What is this??

This keeps popping up in the lower right corner of my screen every time I boot up.. I have no idea what it is.. right or left clicking on it has no effect, nor clicking on any of the 4 icons. The only active area is the little arrow on the left that closes the popup. It may be part of win8 or may be some part of the ASUS addons that were installed with my system.. but I really have no idea what it is or does.

Anyone seen this before?

Well, this is a desktop computer with hard wired line to my router. Don't think there is wifi.. other than an option to add a hotspot. This board, ASUS Z87 Expert, does come with a wifi hotspot, but I have not connected the antenna yet or configured it yet.

I will have to explore this.. thanks for the reply.

I checked the different options in your link, Airplane Mode - Turn On or Off in Windows 8 , but none of them seems to apply to me, as I am not wirelessly connected and there is no wireless icon to work with. But thanks for the suggestion.

Hello, Pauleduc. Welcome to Windows EightForums.

If this is on the lock screen it is an app notification. Not sure what app that would be tied to though.

Right click on your task bar, select Task Manager, More details, Startup.
There will be an ASUS related startup item that you can probably disable.
You can post a screenshot if you're not sure.

Thanks for the suggestion.. there were only two ASUS startups, and I disabled both and it is still there. Will have to try each one to see which is the culprit.

Further to my investigation, I went to the startup tab (under task manager) and disabled ALL items.. and the problem persists.

Obviously, it is something loaded on startup.. is there any other place I can look for startups?

Ah Ha! That was it! It was nothing to do with the internet, but rather the power status. Odd that it still appeared even when I disabled this ASUS startup. And odd that you can do nothing with it.. clicking on it to change power options does nothing. Will need to look into this more.

Thank you very much, Mr. Sardonicus!

Interesting that it turns out to be an ASUS high performance thing. Kind of confusing since a plane icon is thought of as Airplane Mode. I suggest they change that to a Formula One race car or similar.

Glad you got it worked out. :thumb:
