How do I reinstall an application that requires, and has limited installation keys, after an HDD loss without
a backup image?

I'm not sure what your asking? Why can't you just use the same installation key a second time on that same PC?

Ap needs a new download / install
With a new key for each download / install. Keys are limited and used up by shared users.

What's the name of the App and where are you downloading it from? If it's legally obtained software installing it a second time on the same PC wouldn't normally be a problem.

Hi aphanumeric, it GIS ap called Manifold. You can only buy it for download with a limited number of keys for distribution to co-users. I lost it once before when my W7 C: failed and had to repurchase it because all the keys had been shared out. Its a strange thing Manifold does but their software is so superb that it is a small price to pay. But I am trying to avoid it this time.

It's still not making sense to me, if you paid for it you should be entitled to reinstall it again without buying it again. Unless your sharing your serial number with other people that is. In any case I don't know how to avoid reentering your code on a reinstall other than making an image of your current install. If you had to reinstall Windows you could just restore the image instead.

The issue is that you buy a fixed number of usage keys per serial number. So if you have distributed the keys between your co-users and any of the users have a disk failure, you have to buy again, unless as you say you have an image copy. T

This is exactly what I am trying to do. Therefore my original question: how do I make an image backup after this function is "reputedly" removed with 8.1?
