What apps are safe

I have now done a complete reinstall of the upgrade and I don't want to take the same mistake again with some very annoying pop ups.

I was quite surprised at the number of available apps when I first signed in and I downloaded some photo ones and other stuff I thought would be handy but then I started getting very annoying pop up ads whenever I opened a tab.

Now I started to block them one by one with my security but they seemed never ending and I also tried getting rid of IE10 but now find it is not possible but I would like to find out from some of the old hands which apps from that extensive listing are safe or is it better to leave well alone??

All store apps are pretty safe. They run with limited permissions under a new integrity level created specifically for them.

Some apps are ad-based, and often you can buy the full version to get rid of ads. But displaying ads is not a security breach. If you don't want an app on your PC, uninstall it and forget it.

Thanks Vadikan I don't think I shall be downloading any then I just don't want to go through that hell again it made using the net an absolute nightmare.

Another one I think I downloaded too was the Kingsoft Office it said things in the acceptance clauses that I found distasteful again I think it wanted one to agree to download other stuff besides just Office ware.

I did have Microsoft 2007 on the 7 install but it obviously ha snot come across as did not my Kaspersky settings.

What I am now thinking is that although I was given the three choices at the beginning of the upgrade it would not let me accept all my apps - just my settings which I think is pretty ordinary.

I'd like to clarify that I was talking about Windows Store apps. Traditional software can be safe or not safe, and there's no guarantee. Ad pop-ups and altered browser behavior is a sign of malware on your system, but i has nothing to do with apps from Windows Store.

There are forums that specialize on malware removal, e.g. Tech Support Forum

Ok mate well I am loading my 2007 Office again from the retail pack that it originally came from so I won't need the apps.
I just think it is pretty ordinary that stuff I had on the 7 install like my security only came across in part and the Office not at all. I was under the impression that an upgrade was just going to add the new features to an already significant OS and not be quite so convoluted.

IMHO it is stuff like this that is turning folks away from 8 and I can see why because I do not want any fancy new Office programs from Microsoft and certainly nothing like it is has anything to do with this cloud that is being banded about. In a way I ma glad that I have found this out via a reasonably cheap upgrade and not have bought a computer with 8 installed as part of the deal. Then I would be stuck with having to buy programs all over again.
