    KB2817491 update

I have MS Office 2013 installed on my PC. It is set for automatic updates. There is an update (KB28177491) at the MS website. Download Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2817491) 32-Bit Edition from Official Microsoft Download Center
My program hasn't installed it. How do I know if I need it. It says improves performance and fixes bugs. Just curious. Thanks for any comments.

Don't you have Windows Update set to notify you of all updates? See option one here: Windows Update - Check for and Install in Windows 8
Use the Change Settings on the left to obtain updates using Microsoft Updates, and then it will check for all MS components for you, plus a few others optionally.

It is set for automatic updates. As in first post.
I did a manual update. It said my PC is up to date. The optional updates are BingDeskTop and Silverlight.

OK then it wasn't applicable or had already been installed. WU will offer updates for Office whenever they are needed with the settings you have there.

Silverlight you may need but Bing Desktop I didn't bother with, it's your choice of course.

I know it did with Office 2007 and 2010, but 2013 is "Click-to-run" and has its own separate updater and is set to automatic. The update has not been installed.

Ex_Brit, do you have that update in your copy of Office 2013 on your PC?

That's odd, my "About Office 2013" is a little different and I can only assume I clicked some option or other at some stage to use regular updates because, as you can see, they are showing in my Windows Updates, Installed Updates.

On this page: Change recommended update and diagnostic settings - support - Office.com it states in part:

    Use recommended settings

Note If your Microsoft Office product was installed with Microsoft Office Click-to-Run, use Click-to-Run Product Updates instead of Microsoft Update. In Office 2010, click File > Help > Update Options, and then click the option you want. In Office 2013, click File > Account > Update Options, and then click the option you want

Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 Choosing this setting enables Microsoft Update Service and Automatic Updates. Important and recommended updates are automatically installed for Office, and other Microsoft software. Important updates provide significant benefits, such as better protection from security or privacy threats. They also improve the reliability of your computer and software. If your software connects to an online service, Important updates may be installed, if required, to maintain your access to the online service. Recommended updates address non-critical problems and help enhance your computing experience. You might also be offered new optional Office and Microsoft software. New software will not be installed automatically.

I can see now that I didn't have Click-to-Run installed so never had that option.

Thanks for the input Ex_Brit. The update is there now. They just updated their webpage. I turned automatic updates off in Office, but that didn't put it back in WU. I didn't have the option not to install with Click-to-run that I remember. I can't find any where in Office or Windows to put the updates in WU or to turn off Click-to-run. Thanks for the help.
