It could be because I downloaded mine as an ISO from Technet. Anyway, good luck ;-)

It could be. I did an online install from MS. It took hours. I have since ordered the DVD.

Anyone know what this update does? I'm SICK of MS's generic 'the latest fixes' and 'stability and performance improvements'...how r we supposed to know WHAT annoying things we notice EVERY day were fixed or not??

Every update has an online explanation: Description of the Office 2013 update: July 9, 2013

Have you looked at that page you linked?

Where do you see particular explanation of what the update does?

In the Introduction section it only has the following blurb, which comes at the beginning of EVERY office update KB page (at least ones at the same time as this that I'm comparing it to):

Microsoft has released an update for Microsoft Office 2013. This update provides the latest fixes for the 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Office 2013 and Office Home and Student 2013 RT. Additionally, this update contains stability and performance improvements.
Usually, there's a bit RIGHT after this in the intro section that tells what it ACTUALLY has in it, like this one:

Description of the Office 2013 update: July 9, 2013

But with this one there is no such specific release info.

So again I ask Ex_Brit - thanks for linking but I already looked at the page (I linked to it myself) and that's why I'm asking - but do you or anyone know/is there some other source of info for this KB?

amicably (Edit: and I realise I was a bit impatient with my post above, sorry about that)

Then ask the question on the Microsoft forums perhaps? I haven't a clue.
