So my power went out today and my wifi was knocked offline. When I tried to turn on my Sony Vaio Touch it said "unable to access Windows without a Internet connection". I have the Home Office 365 program. I had to eventually wait for my wifi to turn on before I could create a MS Word document. This can't be right.

What version of office 365 do you have.

Office 365 can be used as Office on Demand where it is streamed to your PC as opposed to being installed. Maybe that is the version that you are using.

No idea. Just the one that has the annual subscription. Does it matter?

I guess the question is whether you are launching the classic desktop application when you click on your icon/tile or whether it's launching a shortcut to the online version of the application via the web browser.

You could test by
disconnect wifi
winkey +r
winword {hit enter]

Does it work?

I know the online version and I'm not using the Internet version. This is a annual Home 365 that was a hundred bucks. Which means I should be able to use Excel or Word without Internet service.

^ Correct, yes as far as I understand things, the software installs locally on your box and yes I would expect you to be able to launch it and create new documents without an internet connection.

Were you perhaps trying to create a new document in Skydrive by any chance? That would have been unavailable without an active Internet connection.

Nope. I was clicking the excel icon on my desktop. I even tried the excel and word tiles on the start menu.

I'll test it out tonight. Thanks for the help.
