Does anyone know if it is possible to buy office 2013 from the Microsoft online store without having to go the subscription payments?? Just "buy" the programs instead of "renting" it

Hello Mitchell,

You may be looking at Office 365 that has a subscription instead. The link below at Microsoft Store has Office 2013 suites for sale not subscription.

Microsoft Store - Office suites

Hope this helps, :)

Hi there
While I still prefer Office 2010 - it's hard to source at the moment so it rather depends on whether you need a decent email client as to whether you go for the HOME and Student (which doesn't include OUTLOOK) or for the Business version which does. The Home and business version costs 80 USD more than the home and student version but it's cheaper than adding on OUTLOOK separately to the Home and Student edition.

The subscription model of the business version will be MORE expensive after about 18 months so "You pays your money and You takes your choice".

I'm still finding Office 2007 perfectly OK for what I need to do so the "sweetener" of free upgrades for the subscription model IMO isn't really a huge incentive for choosing that version -- also you never know - prices of subscriptions can rise and that's totally beyond your control. At least once you've paid for your copy of Office - It's DONE - and will still be updated until AT LEAST 2020 anyway.

You might also be able to source Discount resellers of Office 2010 -- or even get a copy thrown in when you buy a new laptop (or even a tablet) -- always ASK the store manager - you've got nothing to lose -- the worst that can happen is they say no - so you aren't any worse off anyway. You won't be able to get any discount resellers for Ms Subscriptions though.

So if you DO choose the subscription model think VERY CAREFULLY. My own view is AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE -- Ms is obviously piloting a Test scenario here as to the possibility of making Windows eventually a subscription only model.

(Interesting addenda -- Without Shawn's Link - it's almost impossible to find any mention of Office 2013 any more !!! seems Ms want people to go to Office 365 ASAP whether people want to or not).

Cheers
jimbo

That is a nice deal and I may consider it, I loved Office 365 except for the 9.99 a month subscription. Currently got Office 2010 Professional from my college for $40.
